Under the general direction of the Community Resources Manager, CI (CRM), the Chaplain is responsible for the spiritual and moral guidance of the institutional residents of the Jewish community at Sierra Conservation Center. The Chaplain conducts Jewish religious services and programs; conducts interviews and counsels the incarcerated people on ethical, moral and spiritual matters. The Chaplain also organizes and instructs classes in religion, ethics, marriage and family. The Chaplain ministers, formal services, counseling to incarcerated people and to staff as requested; volunteer development, liaison, and supervision; solicitation, purchases, ordering and distribution of religious materials, literature; selection of incarcerated people in Main Facility and Facility C; supervision of incarcerated people congregations during religious services.

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).

Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires that each full-time employee receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 30, 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes. Part-time employees shall be subject to the same conditions as full-time employees, on a prorated basis equivalent to their time-base.

Working Conditions

About this location -- Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) is located in the foothills near Jamestown, California, in the heart of the Mother Lode Gold Country.It is adjacent to the Stanislaus National Forest, offering pine trees, mountain streams, and an abundance of recreational activities (fishing, swimming, camping, skiing, golfing, etc.).The prison is approximately 70 miles from Yosemite National Park.

The primary mission of SCC is to provide housing, programs and services for minimum and medium custody incarcerated individuals, to aid in their rehabilitation. SCC is responsible for the training and placement of male incarcerated individuals in the Conservation Camp Program. SCC administers male camps located throughout California.

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. Candidates new to CDCR/CCHCS are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, as well as a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to appointment, followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
