Role: Medical Assistant (part time, 2 days per month)

Organization: Indian Health Service, Cheyenne River Health Center

Pay: $37.50/hour ($300 per day based on an 8 hour day)

Location: Eagle Butte, SD

Time Commitment:8 hours per day for 2 days per month

Start Date: As soon as possible

Other Details: This role is to support a physician providing part-time orthopedic services at the Cheyenne River Health Center in Eagle Butte, SD. The time commitment is 2 work days per month, which will be scheduled based on the availability of the person filling this role and the physician.

Job Description:

• Patient interaction and intake – greet patients, collect and record information, assist with questions, and ensure a welcoming and professional environment.
• Clinical support – prepare patients for exams, provide materials, assist with patient movement as needed, and ensure patient comfort and safety.
• Care coordination – manage patient flow within the unit, coordinate activities with staff, and support continuity of care.
• Documentation and reporting – enter information into electronic systems, maintain accurate records of patient encounters, and prepare required reports.
• Team collaboration – assist the physician and other staff by maintaining supplies, covering basic support functions, and contributing to an efficient clinical operation.
• Compliance and confidentiality – safeguard patient health information and ensure adherence to IHS and federal standards, including privacy, safety, and immunization requirements.
• Logistics and other support – ensure patient exam rooms are maintained in a clean condition, retrieve medicines and supplies as directed by the physician, and perform other duties as directed by the physician.

The Indian Health Service (IHS) is the federal agency responsible for healthcare delivery to federally recognized tribes. The Cheyenne River Health Center in Eagle Butte, SD provides healthcare services to the Native American population in the area via a 8-bed acute care nursing unit, 2-bed low risk birthing unit, emergency room, expanded outpatient department, dental, community health department and a full array of ancillary (including mammography) and support services.
